DSHA Parent eNews | May 22, 2023

Parent eNews | Monday, May 22

Parents, I was walking around the building last week and I stopped to notice a sign hanging in the stairwell. It was a sign made by our Goodness and Kindness co-curricular team and it read, “Together in Unity,” which connects us to Psalm 133 — “how good and kind it is when God’s people live together in unity — our scriptural theme for the year. At the next landing, a sign read, “Be a light for all to see,” Matthew 5:16. Additional signs in the building read:
  • God will guide you
  • Focus on the good
  • Faith is greater than fear
  • Be the Goodness and Kindness, Titus 3:4
  • You are awesome and you are loved
  • God’s mercy is real
  • Join us for Rosary on Monday!
  • Until God opens the next door in your life, worship Him in the hallway

As we close the 2022-23 school year with our final Parent eNews, these soundbites represent the unity the DSHA community has chosen to seek out and experience throughout this school year. The words are encouraging to our girls and represent the desire we have of our daughters to believe she is known and loved by God. How good and kind it is when God’s people live together in unity!
May you have a relaxing and safe summer!
Dan Quesnell
Principal

All DSHA seniors are required to attend graduation practice. Your daughter will not be allowed to walk at the graduation ceremony if she is absent and unexcused from practice. NEW! DSHA Lunch Arrangement for the 2023-24 School Year | At the end of April when we met with our students regarding the Dasher Time changes for the 2023-24 school year, the primary concern the girls expressed were related to lunch. The girls want to know that they will be able to see their friends.
After meeting with the girls and hearing their concerns, it pushed DSHA to think more about the lunch arrangement. After further exploration by Educational Database Coordinator/ Registrar Rachel Kirsenlohr, we are pleased to announce the following:
  • Freshmen and sophomores will have late lunch most Mondays - Thursdays.
  • Juniors and seniors will have early lunch most Mondays - Thurdays.
  • Friday lunch will be of mixed grade levels as is current on Wednesdays.

This arrangement assures that girls will get to see their grade level friends during lunch.
A second consistent concern the girls brought up is related to the number of minutes allocated for lunch. We have modified the bell schedules that was presented in April so that lunches on yellow and extended instruction days will be 30 minutes as they are currently. This does NOT impact instructional time on these days.

Click here to view the new bell schedule.

NEW! Message from the School Nurse Patti Hughes
Parents, as we come to the close of the school year, I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to you. The pandemic has been a crazy journey for all, but one we faced and completed together. We are a part of its history, and it is a part of our own history.
In the past couple of years, there were many changes to the local and national COVID-19 guidance. Some changes were easier to implement and other changes made school life more challenging. The DSHA community weathered the pandemic with as much grace as anyone could. For all of the many negatives of the pandemic, I held to a few personal positives including the opportunity to serve a wonderful group of students, staff, parents, and families. I had long conversations with some of you as you worked your way through serious illness and in some cases the loss of loved ones due to COVID-19. I prayed with many of you and celebrated even more. I appreciated the wisdom and feedback you shared with me.
I am deeply grateful for the partnership I felt with you when caring for the health needs of your daughters. When a student walked through my door I wanted them to feel respected, nurtured, believed, and heard. The students who stopped by after school to chat brought me joy on long days.
DSHA is a mission driven organization and a resilient school community. I cherish the trust that you placed in me to care for your daughters and am thankful for the respect you showed to the established COVID-19 guidance. As my time here ends, I take you and all I have learned at DSHA with me.
Questions? Contact School Nurse Patti Hughes.

The 2024 Mosaic committee has already started meeting and making plans for next year. Is your daughter interested in joining this great tradition? Contact Alumnae Director Danielle Jerominski Rabe, DSHA ’08.
DSHA Annual Fund | There is still time to support the annual fund. Gifts of any size help us get one step closer to our goal of $1.08M this fiscal year.
