Freshman Wellness & Study Hall

DSHA is committed to teaching girls in the ways they learn best. Students grow in confidence in the classroom through the all-girls environment — without distractions — as teachers support and encourage through four years of academically rigorous courses, with a focus on the expectations of college classes and programs. A deliberate, solid foundation of interconnected scope and sequence will ensure graduates are prepared for college and beyond — all with a deliberate and successful commitment to the development of the whole person.
Freshman Wellness
Students will have scheduled Freshman Wellness twice each week. Freshman Wellness is a program that connects students with the people, resources, and opportunities at DSHA that are here to help each student make the most of their freshman year (and beyond!). The Freshman Wellness program allows students time to focus on academics through a structured study hall, access to ALPHA, or time with our interventionist. It also provides a minimum monthly check-in with school counselors, campus ministers, teachers, administrators, or members of the Applied Wellness staff. Through these monthly check-ins, we strive to allow students to engage in thoughtful discussion, work together on activities, and learn more about themselves and DSHA.

Students will learn and practice:
  • Finding the resources that work best for them.
  • Embracing a growth mindset, meeting new people, and learning new things.
  • Creating and committing to a solid academic routine (time management, organization, etc.).
  • Learning about policies, processes, and other guidelines at DSHA.

First Semester Freshman Study Hall
All freshmen are required to take a guided study hall for one semesters. Students are assigned a specific room and study hall moderator. This structured approach, rather than an open-space study hall, is intended to foster productive study skills and a connection with students and faculty. This study hall differs from Freshman Wellness because is a consistent, structured time to study. It also offers a daily touchpoint for students while encouraging positive habits, community building, and providing a resource for DSHA-related events and activities.
